... and doesn't Capsize mean 'overturn', upend etc, rather than 'sink'?

PS How many of us have been asked for our 'cap size' in the last 50 years?

IMHO, capsize is a reasonable synonym for sink; not identical in meaning but close enough. It works here, and having 7 additional letters helps make short work of the puzzle.

Of the 7-letter possibilities, I went with the one that has a singleton as the penultimate letter (for Z) and ends with a very common one (E). That worked out nicely. Details later from mouseymick.
