Pudding- popover,with dam inside?

Hi jokerman - when there are "special instructions" attached to a puzzle, you really need to post them, as we don't all have the puzzle.

This puzzle is based on the traditional practice of inserting small coins into Christmas puddings as tokens of good fortune for those coming across them in their helpings. Each of eight entries, clued in italics, including the unclued 26 Across, consists of a coin at some point within a pudding, the whole non-word being clued without definition. In one case the pudding word may be regarded as part of a (common) compound. Unchecked letters in these entries (not including letters occurring where they touch or cross) may be arranged as PAY FOR SOME, SEE, ON NOEL.

Re your answer - 'popodameer' - I can't see how you've got there & it doesn't exist as far as I can see. Can you please post the letter pattern you have - & are happy with...
Lie-in. Swallowed a dictionary for Christmas?

Hi Lie-in King. Sorry I forgot about posting the instructions. The letters I have are pop?da?r?r. I have 3 letters left to make the phrase in the instructions (m, o and e). thanks
I can't find a reference to the suggested answer either, a 5 yen coin is considered lucky but that's as far as I got.
Pudding- popover,with dam inside?
scooping - back to your scraping, that barrel isn't quite empty.

As a "by the way" - that garbage, pretending to be helpful info disguised as the preamble is precisely the reason I stopped looking at this type of self-congratulatory nonsense.

*Do a puzzle!* Stop trying so hard to make them - as near as damn it - unsolvable, just to prove how "clever" you are as a setter.

Tiresome, boring, unbelievably self-obsessed compilers - they're my choice for "Room 101".

I'm not giving this Q any further attention - my apologies to jokerman - I *do hope* however that someone can help you finish the puzzle.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you & yours. :-)
L-i k, is Scooping a setter?
The first sentence was to Scooping - the rest a comment I largely agree with on puzzles.

Neveracrossword- I think this is the answer but it doesn't fit the letters I have so far.
Lynne, which post are you referring to?
Sorry you can't see the two separate points, have to go.
The solution is as given by neveracrossword - I believe that you have 6d wrong...it starts with a V rather than an R.
Thanks, spoffy.
Jokerman, I hope you have it all fixed now.
Danny - scooping is no more a setter than you or I. However, he is one of AB's most prolific ****-stirrers. (Apologies for the sweary bit, but sometimes it's needed...)

Ignore him - I do, unless addressed personally, as here.

Apologies to jokerman for the extra traffic.
Thanks L-i k .I would have been surprised if he was going by some of the rubbish answers he has posted.

Thanks neveracrossword- I've seen where I went wrong. 6d should be vyes not eyes.
jokerman. apologies for interrupting your thread,
...you now have the first letter right but the second is wrong...
Question Author
Should it be "vies" spoffy?
Yes indeed - VIS (strength) [with] E (East) held, ‘vie’ being an obsolete word meaning ‘to bid (at cards)’.
