Jack Wooley?
Well Simon Parker was editor in 1976 but can't find evidence that he resigned
Where's Mikey444 when you need him.
1976: A garden centre opened at Grey Gables, managed by Tom and Pru with Higgs as general handyman. ... Jack sold Jaxx Caff and his shares in The Borchester Echo .
Sorry guys...busy elsewhere !

Jack Wooley used to own the Echo, but I am pretty sure he was never the Editor....not really his sort of thing....I doubt if he would have been sober long enough. Elizabeth used to be journo on the Echo, about 30 years ago.

Simon Parker was the Editor during the 70's, although I can't recall exactly when he left the job or why. He did de-flower Shula in a cornfield, which may have resulted in him losing his job.

He was a bit of a cad, although it has to be said that Shula was attracted to cads, like wasps are attracted to open jam jars !

This link may help with similar queries though :::::

Thanks Mikey. That's all I can find as well. Simon Parker was employed by Jack Wooley in 1976 but doesn't say who left or why. I used to listen regularly back then but it is 40 years ago!
Malcopool....is this for a Pub quiz, or similar ?
When I was first introduced to the Archers yonks ago (not that I stuck with it) Shula was an absolute *** of a teenager.
Prudie.....lets not split hairs here...she was a tart ! No man in trousers was safe anywhere near her.
... or out of trousers! ;0))
:-)
Simon Parker was editor from 1976 to 78, so we are looking for his predecessor.
Question Author
Mikey4444 this is part of the Bridgnorth charity quiz from a section titled DUM DI-DUM DI-DUM DI-DUM DUM DI-DUM DI-DAA-DAA. This section has 25 questions and I have answered 24 of them - this was my last one.
malco....I have found another link :::

The only reference to the Borchester Echo I can find is the following ::::

"1976/00/00 A new editor for the Borchester Echo was taken on by Jack Woolley, a young man called Simon Parker, formerly a reporter on the Felpersham Evening Post "
I think Kenneth Bird was an editor of The Archers itself, not the Borchester Echo (no record of a character named Kenneth Bird). Nice try though ...
Yes...I think you are right Ellipsis !
Hang on whilst I look in my book.
Mr. Hapgood-Harman.
Well done FF.....that was before my time. I only started to listen in the early 80's.
