I stupidly fell for one of those ads that pop up on here from time to time and in a moment of madness gave my card details to enter into what I thought was a chance to win an android tablet for £1. I now realise, too late, that I have signed up to secure sites which will cost me £29.95 a month! I went to my bank and cancelled my card but they say this may not be enough to stop the agreement as I authorised the payment. What can I do? there must be a way out of this. I tried to email them to cancel but it keeps asking for my password but I never had one.

Well it's a Dutch company (Se Dig Online), so yo've theoretically got the same contractual rights as with a UK company (because the Netherlands are in the EU) but actually enforcing them might be a bit trickier. Try an email to info@simplesitebuilder.net using your normal way of sending emails (i.e. avoiding any password-protected forms). If you don't...

Can we have a link to a website please, Pips1? If we know what company it is we might be better placed to suggest the best way forward.

It was called Simple Site Builder but I can't actually find a link, every time I try to email them it comes back undelivered. I could kick myself for being so stupid, I can only put it down to Christmas stress!

This happened to me over something similar. The worst that can happen is that they will take the first payment. Once you have cancelled your card no further payments will be authorised. The information about payment does not always appear on screen. I went to my bank after noticing three payments collected; I told them that I had not willingly authorised these and the bank refunded me, pending an investigation. That was over a year ago and I have heard nothing back since, so worth talking to your bank when they reopen.
Dispose of CC & report loss. Payments are held over till you inform debtors of new CC details. You have the upper hand to re-negotiate payments or NOT!
Part of the reason I'd like to know which company is taking the payments is that it helps to know whether they're based in the UK, elsewhere within the EU or outside the EU, as that will determine what legal rights you have. If you've tried to email them (but then encountered a password box) you must have been doing so via a page on their website (because you wouldn't get a password request anywhere else). What's the URL of that page, please?

Well it's a Dutch company (Se Dig Online), so yo've theoretically got the same contractual rights as with a UK company (because the Netherlands are in the EU) but actually enforcing them might be a bit trickier.

Try an email to [email protected] using your normal way of sending emails (i.e. avoiding any password-protected forms).

If you don't hear anything back, try phoning them. Phone calls to the Netherlands aren't expensive and the chances of the person answering the phone not speaking English are almost non-existent: 00 31 36 536 7931

Alternatively (and possibly as your FIRST way of resolving the matter) fill in your email address on the page referred to in your post:
http://www.simplesitebuilder.net/members/wwforgot.php
(ensuring that you use the same address that you first registered with), and click 'Send'. The company will then send you an email to tell you what your password is. Once you've got that you can use the login button, from the same link, to access your account and look for an option to terminate it.
