It's not even as though they can really afford it.
Just keeping up with the Jones' taken to the extreme.

My sons have had numerous journey's in a limo. Their Dads mate owns a limo hire business.

Yes, thats different though ummmm,I just wonder what she's going to expect next birthday.
I feel sorry for the poor sod driving the limo, has he seen the size of their car parks hahaha
My eldest Grandson has been treated the same.
What's going to be his special treat for his 18th birthday?
A trip for him and his mates to some exotic holiday place?
Its ridiculous what kids get treated to these days our little one is happy with a trip to mcdonalds once in three months on a dad day treat then she asks to go in the bouncy car car (our landy) to mcdonalds!
Question Author
My point precisely Graham.
shame they couldn't take the kids somewhere nice, after all that effort!

what happened to jelly and icecream?

How can Macdonalds be a treat? Yuckyuckyucketyyuck!
Not your child so I don't see why your getting involved!!! Up to the parents how they spend their money!!!
ditto polly1958
How do you know they didn't get it cheap?
Someone mentioned ‘keeping up with the Jones’s’, and that’s precisely what this is. I attended a birthday party for a four year old recently, and was utterly appalled. The child is in a class of 30 at her private pre-school, and it is expected that every child invites every other child in the class to birthday parties – so basically it’s one big round of birthday parties. Tables and chairs were hired for the event, and caterers and entertainers brought in - and the high value of the gifts given was quite obscene. When these kids grow up, the real world is going to come as quite a shock to them. Their parents are doing them no favours whatsoever.

Ok a few different opinions.I personally still think it's over indulgence.
naomi - did you go to the party willingly or were you dragged along? Did you survive the whole party?
Never had birthday treats, never needed them.

Never had congratulatory surprises or presents for getting to Grammar School or University.

Never needed them.

Never ever felt underprivileged.

My kids were treated the same.........just a "well done " perhaps"
I agree, Polly, over-indulgence indeed. I like to think one day it'll be fashionable to hold retro-themed kids parties, with pass the parcel, oranges and lemons, musical statues, etc, and a sit-down tea with sandwiches, jelly and birthday cake.
"jolly good show young sqad"

"teabreak over - back on your head"
sunny....LOL
My eldest doesn't have parties now (and too young for a disco) - this year he had an under water camera and a diving trip (we are on holidays). Boy #2 got a party at soft play (£12 a child) and girl had her whole class to a part in the village hall with a disco/entertainer with games, party food and gift bags. The things will get a party when they turn five. Each to his own.
