Why do people add same answer

I understand why often within first few minutes of a new question we often all pile in with same answers. What I don't understand is why people add the same answer long after all done and dusted, and even acknowledged by asker. Perhaps someone out there knows?

Some do it to get their post count up....

Some have said they assume no answers have been given, because they see,no best answer has been given and presume that to mean there are no answers, thereby answering without scrolling down. Not sure if this covers everyone as the best answer is only recent

I must confess that on occasion I've read a question and posted an answer and then realised I'm an hour late.

I've noticed this and wondered why as well grasscarp .People answering yonks after the correct answers have been given .
There can be loads of correct answers on one post say for example The Sat Guardian and then on Sunday you get people popping up and just confirming what has already been given....waste of typing energy :)

I don't know either grasscarp but I just clicked on the underlined 'within' in your question and found I have been chosen from among those in Southampton to take part in an anonymous survey. I actually live in Birmingham so I'm a bit puzzled. Is this another new advertising ploy?

Even more puzzlingly, the 'within' is no longer underlined and there is no link.

I sometimes type an answer in where it looks like there are no answers press submit. Where did factor30, quinie, baldric, mamylynne, ladyalex, Sandyroe etc. come from! But these ones hours later have had me puzzled for a long time

While on the subject of this sort of thing, when I first joined Ab I posted an answer one Sunday and found that 2-3 other people had all pasted the same, correct answer at virtually the same time. Checked back later and found that this particular poster had posted the same answer about an hour later. The thing that really pissed me off was that the OP thanked the last poster for his help and ignored the rest of us who'd posted the same answer an hour earlier
