14 Across is doubly mystifing as the clue is not printed in the paper. I have found the clue in Danword : " Cardinal clear after withdrawing offer " Answer " tender " I can see that 'offer' is 'tender' but not why .

Tender - 'red' (cardinal) + 'net' (clear; as profit, eg) (withdrawing; back)

Net is clear (of tax, for example)

As an aside, if you'd looked down a few threads, I'd given the clue earlier :-)

You can usually rely on AB rather than using that site - they've got plenty wrong in the past.

Thanks all . Not sure if my mention of not being printed in the paper was understood . In 60 years of DT Crosswords, I have never before seen a space for a clue ( numbered 14 in this case), but no 14 across clue in the paper . It jumps from 12 to 15 .
