I think this is CLAUSE (article) and Lecturer is presumably "L", so is "cause" a synonym for "to deliver" I can just about see it - if something causes pain, it delivers pain.....but I need re-assurance.

I can't find a direct synonym anywhere. But 'Cause' is a direct synonym of Induce. And Induce is a direct synonym of Deliver.
So I'm quite confident your parse is correct. :-)
