The answer to 30d follows the answer to 9d, farrwest ''(***) R?AD? LEA? ?O ?OME)'' [17a is LANDE].

And thanks for your answer, I'd also wrongly guessed at 'weather' (I don't have Brewer's but thought maybe the labiate plant could be the medicinal herb ending in the theme word - so that 'heal*** or prunella' might work in a roundabout way - wrong again!).
I really dislike crosswords that rely on lists - especially Brewer's lists.
