All clues lead to answers of eight letters, and these are to be entered around their appropriate numbers, clockwise or anticlockwise, beginning anywhere. Solvers must determine where each begins and the direction in which it is to go

3 Jellyfish making one jump in pain (8) CEPHEACA ???
30 Monkey showing shortened tail? We’d like to know (8

I have for number 3
E _ A
P 3 C
H E A

and for number 30 I have
T E L
N 30 _
E S U

Hope you understand. Many thanks

That would make 9 Elarties
9 Sporty types try matches - I have Hearties (sporty types) = HEAR (try) + Ties (matches)
Question Author
I do agree that acaleph parses very well - I will try and turn all the cogs and see what happpens!
Question Author
Thanks Nac - putting acalephe in clockwise rather than anti clockwise fits. brilliant!
Question Author
^ anti-clockwise rather than clockwise. I'm having a trying day!
Glad I could help, JJ. Did you get the monkeys sorted?
Question Author
No I haven't NAC, and I think my letters are correct!
Question Author
Just got it - ENTELLUS
Question Author
Entellus (monkey) = En(d) (shortened tail) + tell us (we'd like to know)
Thanks, JJ - and glad you got it!
Question Author
Cheers, NAC!
There seems to be an ambiguity because 6 can be entered either clockwise or anticlockwise.
I don't think it's an anagram in 3 - 'one jump' = 'A LEP'.
Question Author
Agreed Profmaisie but theinstructions state that 6 should be entered clockwise
"Every answer is in The Chambers Dictionary, except one proper name. To avoid ambiguity, 6 should be entered clockwise"
I missed that - thank you JJ109 (I'll turn my entry around!)
Question Author
You're welcome
...actually, I didn't miss it - it doesn't say that in my print version.
ACALEPHE is an anagram of LEAP and ACHE
... but thanks again.
qadzbork - Azed has not given us 'leap' for the anagram.
