I have seen the solution to (7) across Surrounded with a lady's elastic corset, e.g. (here and elsewhere) given as ENGIRD but surely the past form ENGIRT is required by the wording of the clue?
It's the Telegraph. SNAFU
My point is that ENGIRT can be entered in the grid rather than ENGIRD which has been offered as a solution, the final letter is an otherwise unclued light.
Correct answer was given above by Scorpio.
As I said typical Telegraph.
Not at all , if the clue is surrounded then it is asking for the past tense.

Sorry to contradict you Lynne but Engird is the word accepted as correct.
Well they need educating then.
See my earlier posts Lynne 13.35 & 13.44
Thanks, Mamyalynne. Sorry to harp on dannyk13, but on this occasion the Telegraph is not at fault, the incorrect solution (ENGIRD) was suggested a couple of times.
The Telegraph must be at fault as it accepted Engird as correct.
Lickey, what Danny is saying is that they accepted the wrong answer as correct in the online submission - glad I don't pay money for it or they'd be getting strong words from me if not cross ones.
Lynne, I have on occasion used strong words in e-mails but it is water off a ducks back as far as the Telegraph is concerned.
Oh well.
