Ratha, chariot. The 'flat round bread' was 'paratha' - then 'pa' was taken off, 'put away'.

ratha tricky one, that.
I thought it was a lovely clue.
I've watched Ben Hur 11 times so am an expert on chariots but I've never heard of a ratha.
rath or ratha is an Indian word for chariot.

Does the 20 in the blurb relate to 20 across? I have T**Y but I can't see an answer.
Yes it does Lubumbashi
YOU NEED A WORD MESNING THREE OR A SET OF THREE
6d - I have all but first and last letters but am not confident as there seems to be no word with this 'filling'. I have 19a ending with 'I'; if that were an 'A' then I see a word in 6d...any help/hints would be much appreciated!
I've not got the magazine now, but if 6 D has 'ymn' in it, it was Hymnody.

If you gave the letters you have - for 6 and 19, I'd be able to help.
Yes, I got hymnody, that's 5d. What i have for 6d is _arstif_. 19a I have irukandji
Yes, your letters are correct - it's a very odd word! It begins with K.
Irukandji is correct

6d Ka rst ify
Thank you- as someone with a geological background I am ashamed of not gettting that one!
