Help with my last two, please.

28a Dutch Botanist was acquanted with county (4) K?NT
Is this KENT, a triple definition,? I just can't find a botanist with that name, and I'm worried I'm missing something.

45a EX-giant (4) E?E? - I thought Ex might be Exodus - but I still can't get it.

Can someone put me out of my misery, so I can go on to the Mephisto!

It's under Kentia in the above link, and it says he was Dutch.

28 Kent

Have you found a Dutch botanist called Kent? I couldn't find one.
found a william kent 1685-1748 but now not sure if he's dutch, kent is scottish for (to know someone) or be acquanted with if that helps !!
Douglas Kent was (is?) a botanist, known as "Dougie Kent" to his acquaintances.
It's under Kentia in the above link, and it says he was Dutch.

Thanks sam and slaney - I've just got eten - I don't know why I struggled with that!

As to the Dutch botanist, that seems a little obscure - a botanist who died in 1820! But..it is The Spectator.

I've only just started doing this crossword again recently ( lots of time on my hands recovering from a broken hip) and I'm really enjoyed them - they're like the Mephisto with kn0bs on!
you're welcome
happy to help
You'll find today's Mephisto to be very testing!!! Took me 4 hours.

Thanks too, frugalfred. Merriam Webster dictionary says it was William KENT as slaney says.
Question Author
....Ummm...okay perhaps I'll start the Mephisto tomorrow.

Thanks everyone.
Well today's Mephisto was a 'Paul McKenna' which always doubles the solving
time!

I see what you mean, toalisi - I've managed to finish it, but I didn't really enjoy that Mephisto at all.
