The answer to 13a is eschew
The clue to 19a is 13 - selfishly?
I hope that you can now see why forego is the answer.Collins dictionary gives both versions as correct.

13a For ego
forego if you have mistyped selflessly or unselfishly
(although strictly it should be spelt FORGO )
Habe you given the exact clue for 13d.
I thought forego meant to go before/precede
Forgo would not fit in with "selfishly" which is tied up with another answer i.e eschew therefore the answer is fore go (for ego)
I don't understand though- I can see the FOR EGO wordplay but that doesn't seem satisfactory to me- why does selfishly mean forego?
For ego i.e for myself
So is the answer two words (3,3) FOR EGO?
If it's 6 letters I don't understand it

Which crossword is it, Traci88?
THe answer is forego which ties in with eschew. Then for ego i.e for myself which is selfish
I don't have the crossword so I don't understand why the answer has to be tied in with Eschew.
Is the clue incomplete? Selfishly eschew? Should it include a reference to another clue number?

Besides, I thought the spelling for eschew was forgo (with to forego meaning something different- to precede)

Thanks- I assumed 13 was the clue number not part of the clue. It's always confusing when clues are not written correctly on here.

My online dictionary says "Notes: forego means to go before or precede (as in fore) and to do without is to forgo ", which is how I was always taught to spell them (and when I used to rely on Fowler), but I see that both spellings are now used in some dictionaries.
Glad we got it sorted
