Question Author

Hang on a tick, Jack - the smoking ban came in on 1st July 2007 under the Labour "Government" of fond memory.

Perhaps you were joking?
Doc.....in this world........ nothing is forever.
Y'think.........? :o)
Sad sign of the times DrF, whoever is at fault pubs are disappearing all over the country. As I type this I'm looking out of my front window at three new bungalows on the site of my old local, the Miners Welfare is a pile of rubble, the Blue Tit is now full of OAPS bungalows and the local snooker club has been converted into flats for layabouts and every town and village has boarded up pubs
Reeves Corner furniture store, near where I work, survived for 140 years and through 2 World Wars only to be destroyed during the rioting.
Question Author
what happened to all the non smokers that were going to fill these pubs when the smoking ban came in
Breathing cleaner air elsewhere.

W Ron.
There's more than just that - pubs have been struggling for a long time

There's the drinking and driving issue
Prices ( how much is a pint of beer in a pub these days ?!? )
and more recently people have a lot less money in their pockets

I don't think you can lay the blame for the demise of pubs at the door of any one political party - we just have too many pubs for the demand.
