Mobile phone keypad problems

Does anyone know why my new mobile phone is not spelling out information for my contacts list. If, for instance, I press key no 4 twice to get an 'h', it shows as 'Hi'. It is driving me round the bend. I am obviously, technophobe that I am, doing something wrong. Any ideas, please? Help! .... Gussie

Looks like it's set to 'predictive text' - work your way through the instructions and it will explain how to switch it to 'normal' text.

Thank you so much Answerprancer. I have no instruction manual with this phone but I just dinged around tools and found the right text thing and turned it off. Works like a dream. Thanks once again. Gussie
