Ah Jack! Hello. Good to see you back. What's the Andrew?
Zacs - The Royal Navy
Oh right. Never heard that before. Thanks.
Question Author
Hallo Zacs - great to hear from you.
The Andrew is the nickname for the Royal Navy!
Said to be named after Lieutenant Andrew Miller - a press-gang officer in the 18th century.
I was trained as a telegraphist and then on to intercepting enemy wireless.
Sign of the times- my computer doesn't like the word telegraphist!
Guess that trade is long gone
Best wishes
hi jack - off topic, did you get the Kindle working? x

fao humbersloop.
Many thanks for remembering my problem - short answer is NO!
managed to register but fail to down load from bookstore.
Am non-tech and cannot get beyond the message which says ' kindle cannot connect with TalkTalk internet' - or words to that effect and asks me to enter my password.
Only trouble is which password? How do I find this?
Sorry to be so dim. thanks again for the kind thought.
Cheers
Hi jacklee - glad to see you posting again. Hope you are well "look after yourself" LOL - that was from another posting.
I'd have thought if you're using the same internet connection for the Kindle as you do to get here, it'll be asking you for the password for that connection jack

either that or your email password

is it offering you a "forgot password" option for anything?

Jack. Thanks for the history lesson. How can I have gotten to 51 and not know that? Anyway, the password is usually the WEP number or your talk talk box. Probably quite long and a combination of numbers and letters.
^Zacs is a better answer

Thanks everyone - think I have the right word from a phone call to talkTalk but am still stuck!
My grandson - hi-tech- is coming to see me tomorrow - fingers crossed.
Old age or just Dim?
Jack ...your password to connect kindle will be on sticker on bottom of router..
Hi Jacklee - nice to see you posting. Hope you are keeping well after your skin op on Christmas Eve.

Which ship(s) were you on in the Navy?
Neither. Just human. Its the techies make everything over complex to protect their knowledge.
Swipe kindle page down from top ..select wireless...look for your router select...select connect...it may not connect so do same again select router then forget...deselect your router from list and a box will present for password....input password EXACTLY as it appears on sticker on base of router...hyphens etc...it will then connect
Reselect..not deselect...
Question Author
murraymint - sorry but nothing on bottom of router -honest!

ann - skin op went well, thanks. am seeing surgeon again this Wednesday for check-up.
Ships? not many and for short trips only - came home on HMS Searcher - escort class carrier.
We were an odd bunch - mostly shore based - in some peculiar spots - best not to mention.
Were you Navy?
Hi ya Jack, good to see you posting again.
My father was a wireless telegrapher in "The Andrew" during WWII, mostly on mine-sweepers in the Channel/North Sea and the Med.. He was involved in the Dunkirk evacuation.
My best friends Dad died last year. He was in the RN. I asked her which ship he was on, and she didn't know!!! That's very sad as she never asked him. All I know is that he was in Malta where he met my friends Mum (my friend and her older brother were both born in Malta). They later settled here and had three more children. I'd love to find out which ship he served on so I can tell my friend all about it.
