A dear lady I work with has a habit of using words in the wrong context like "where would i get a chap to build me two 'pelvices' for my window. Another colleague always corrects her loudly while sneering at her...this always makes me cringe. Am I right in thinking that it's just bad form to correct other peoples spelling and grammar mistakes?

I'm sorry Noraz - but with your avatar staring me in the face, I cannot concentrate on thinking or answering anything; the sight of Daniel Criag's crutch is so distracting....

I DO think that context is all.
I don't mind people using the wrong words with me, but if I thought they were going to repeat the error elsewhere where it might count, I'd (tactfully, I hope) correct them.

Mrs jth is a bit of a Mrs Malaprop, so I'm used to it :o)

It's always nice to see the regular, sniffy 'puller-uppers' get their come-uppance on here, though....
That's *crotch*, Salla......................;o)

Oh I don't know Jack..'crutch' sounds about right pn some levels!! =)
Exactly noraq - I was thinking of it as something firm to hold on to..........
I guess it depends on whether the person corrected is upset or pleased to not make the same mistake again.

Sneering is not recommended though.

Have to say there are a few language screw-ups folk commonly make that I have to bite my tongue not to mention. They grate on the ear so much after having the correct way drummed into me at primary school.
We were discussing potential Christmas gifts one year............and she was telling me about this lovely "Red Commode" she fancied.

Kimono........she meant a Kimono...........:o)

Nobody likes a smart ar$e, I'd loosen the screws in his adjustable chair, if he was in my office.

Oh, off the top of my head, referring to "me and whoever did something" or Using "less" rather than "fewer" when referring to multiple things. I'm sure there are more. Why was I taught something if the same rules aren't expected of all ? Was it just to annoy me ?
Probably pelmets.

Lol old geezer...I know what you mean..some things grate on me too, like.".I seen it"
I'm with Old Geezer on this one. I grit my teeth when people say " I was sat on the chair" - No - You were sitting on the chair. People who return things back to the shop. No - You just return them.

I have done this, I hasten to add not in a negative manner at all, I try not to do it in a manner which may make a person feel small. I dont do it often but I have done it occasionally in the past, I was helping someone put together an argument for the council, they kept using the word "pacifically" which I corrected with them before the meeting as something insignificant like that would have put them on their back foot in front of a group of officials.
