We have already debated teams travelling long distances across the country for fixtures when everyone else have been told to stay home.

Meanwhile (Glasgow) Celtic decided to take themselves off to Dubai for a mid season break, inevitably one of them got Covid and they are now all isolating at home.

Is that not just totally irresponsible and madness?

They had to go for performance reasons.

Yep.
They had to go for performance reasons.
It depends whether it was a work related reason. Probably not essential but some seem obsessed with footballers still working bringing pleasure to milliona like me but dont whinge about other elite sports continuing like rugby (most) horse racing, cricket, formula 1 ect. And tv shows are still made but there are'nt threads saying says thats madness. They are tested twice week and are superfit. Anyone who breaks the rules of course should be punished.
If all other celebs and anyone else is allso banned from trips to dubai then of course footballers should to imo but why should footballers who who are tested and monitored more than anyone else be treated less favourable regarding holidays or work travel.
If it were my club tho I'd defo say will stay at home in ul not goto Dubai. Maybe all travel should stop for now. It would allso help mental health of those who are jealous of people with money or elite skills.
That's great
One person got it and they are all now self isolating doesn’t sound like a national disaster to me.
Players are getting it all the time and the same thing is happening. It’s a controlled environment.
As fur travelling all over the country, I’d imagine lots of professions are doing that and for all we know spreading the virus, but we never hear about that possibly because no one checks.
Why pick on footballers, just because they’re high profile? We are NOT all equal in situations like this, just as in an actual war. It’s the way it is
"They had to go for performance reasons."

Indeed. Lounging poolside with a couple of beers has long been recognised in elite sport circles as an effective way to claw back a massive points deficit as your season evaporates before you.
Cyclist spotted in London other day ,em let’s see ,oh let’s change the rules at least he did not cycle to Durham .
I see there’s to be a clampdown on social distancing rules though which is good.

// I’d imagine lots of professions are doing that and for all we know spreading the virus, but we never hear about that possibly because no one checks. //

There was a man on television yesterday who lives at a London address, telling us to “Stay Home - Save Lives”.
It might have been more convincing if he hadn’t gone to Bristol to say it.
!Why pick on footballers, just because they’re high profile? We are NOT all equal in situations like this, just as in an actual war. It’s the way it is "
I would imagine it's because they are high profile they're being "picked on"
PS we are all equal in this as in everyone is as able as thenext person to catch it and spread it in the same situations
I heard the end of a news article the other day that the lower leagues weren't going to be allowed to play (it might have been football, womens football Scottish football, not sure)but the top two were. I don't understand why players in better teams are less likely to spread it than lower teams - in fact from what you see, the "more important" ones seem more likely!
It’s the top four leagues in England and it’s because many are part time. it’s easier to track professional players as they can be in their own “bubbles”.
In N Ireland though there has not been any testing at all of players despite the fact that many are part time.
That’s set to change.
And yes, I realise that players don’t stay in their “bubbles” all the time but like I say, we aren’t all equal in this.

The first “ and it’s because many are part time.” wasn’t meant to be there. The top 4 leagues are fully professional
For elite players eg premier league its to do with the resources to do regular testing and operate in bubbles working and travelling together. Some of the players in lower tiers will be part time and have have other jobs to go to and the clubs cant afford to do all the testing and regular deep cleaning
What I meant was we are not all treated equally.
I’m fine with that. I don’t have a problem personally with the PM going to Bristol for example
sorry ickeria yours was'nt there when a started mine
Then why were Liverpool's Marine allowed to host Tottenham on Sunday? Most of Marine's players are part time. One's a dustman.
You explained much better bobbinwales!
Not helped by my woeful typing
Theres no right and wrong on this. Yes a can see its annoying for some of those stuck at home with no gym or golf course when they see footballers travelling 200 miles to play a game they love and some holding parties or flying to Dubai. But if its tightly controlled with testing and isolation as it is its making life just a little bit more bearable for those who cant go to work, go to matches, play themselves or visit pubs, friends ect. Am really enjoying following the Premier league football and some other sports. Am not sure why everyone picks on football
