how do they cope for example if they had an accident and broke a leg and couldn't do their usual work - do they not have some form of back up? When I was a self employed dog sitter/walker (years before it became a 'thing'!) I would not have had any income had I not worked but that was a given for working for myself. Should those who are self employed now be whinging about having to wait to get a payout from the government?

I think overall the help is very generous, especially as you can get the 80% even if you keep working. I thinks someone who runs a business/is self employed accepts there are income fluctuations and should have plans to survive for 2-3 months until the backdated grant of up to £7500 comes in. Someone else was complaining they couldn't get UC as they had over...

I'm not self employed so it doesn't affect me. I'm just saying to roy that for administrative simplicity the 80% grant has to be available to all eligible self employed since it would be far too difficult to assess how much each person's profit has fallen since covid
The grant will go towards net profits for 2019/20 self assessment.I consider the government has reacted fairly over this. As a self employed worker i'm fully aware what I signed up for 30 years ago and quite frankly was not expecting anything. However when its all over we will no doubt pay the price.
arent you? Dmn i was going to ask you to do some work over skype!
Ryzen it will only go towards the 19-20 profits if its paid before April 5th 2020 -which is highly unlikely.
Let's just come to a private arrangement bednobs- HMRC have got enough to sort out with furloughing (I'm waiting to hear on that) and these self-employed grants without me asking to go for self assessment. I'll do online tutoring; what can you offer in return?
I'm likely to be available for maths help free of charge via AB though for the next few months unless I volunteer for NHS when my self isolation finishes
APG..very true..we can keep the tax for another 8 months. :-)
;-) Yey!
ff - if you can stop us killing each other you can have whatever you like
