I hope this is dealt with more successfully than FGM has been.

How can people think this is ever OK especially in 2019?

I favour mod sabre-rattling over editorial revision. Ahem, I digress... The civilised world needs to make a united stand against this medieval practice, even the grovelling apologists need to see it for what it is. To speak out against such a cruel and barbaric practice is not racist, it is in the interest of humanity.

So how much do immigrants and their culture affect your life on the Wirral?
Well it is steadily increasing. Slow but sure. But thankfully nowhere near as bad as London, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and many Lancashire mill towns.
Like cracks in the dam, the trickle is there.
I live in London. I can't say that the culture around here has changed due to immigrants. Not in a negative way anyway.
Theland. I am worried that you are prone to reading and believing stuff from bad sources, i.e. right wing redtops and ancient religious books. Try not to be so frightened of the wickedness you see in the world; not everybody is like that.
Muslims calling for the death of our soldiers returning from Afghanistan? Emboldened to do so! Speakers corner in London swamped by Muslims, and breaking the law by mass praying in the Royal Park. Imam in Didsbury Mosque calling for Jihad, three weeks later, the Manchester bomb!
Every other Jihadist outrage is an attack on my culture, my people.
Now a flood of black African migrants are swarming in.
What not to like?
I try not to tell people how to behave Theland in case I am judged for it.
But I have lived in several places of the uk and have only found my life enriched by immigration, as I did when I was born abroad.
I wouldn' exactly say that black (is there any other kind?) African immigrants are flooding in. My neighbours are from Ghana. They are lovely people and their daughters came over here when they were in their early teens. They have turned out to be lovely girls. A credit to this country and work hard and pay their taxes which is more than can be said for some of the home grown Brits
Rockrose - I don't doubt it.
The Cologne New Year's Eve rapes and Swedens rape crisis are not enriching on account of immigration.
Rockrose, //very few of our cultures are ‘UK’ born//

Debateable - but that aside, what aspect of this is acceptable and doesn't warrant criticism (and that's putting it mildly) in the strongest terms?
We seem, as usual, to be wandering from the point. Difficult to stay focused when bent over backwards but please, try.

Child abuse dressed up as culture
I haven’t said it was acceptable Naomi don’t put words in my mouth
We all know nice decent immigrants. My daughter in law is a lovely Sudanese girl. I am not racist.
Exceptions not the rule.
If the discussion in this thread had been confined to breast-ironing, then it would have been undoubtedly the most unanimous debate in Answerbank history.

On the other hand, it has not taken long for the discussion to go beyond merely one vile practice; now entire cultures, even those wholly unconnected with this atrocity, are being implicated. That's where the dispute comes from.
What I can't understand is - if people feel so strongly about issues, why don't they use that energy to campaign for change instead of banging on about it via their keyboard on the internet?
Rockrose, I haven't put words into your mouth. I've asked you a question. What aspect of this is acceptable and doesn't warrant criticism. Any of it? All of it? None of it? What?
Twenty five yards from my house, twice a week, we have the Romanian accordion player / busker / beggar, who only knows three tunes and plays them badly. Further on outside the Co Op is the Slovakian Big Issue seller.
How do these two add to enriching our society? Both claim benefits undoubtedly.
237SJ, do you feel strongly about it?
I voted Brexit. That's a start.
Naomi - not particulaly but then I`m not spending a lot of my time complaining about immigrants or anything else for that matter.
237SJ, Young girls in this country are being subjected to torture - and you don't feel strongly about it? Speechless! :o/
