I’m not sure if laughing is aloud – but I did – heartily.

On a more serious note, Lord Tebbit, a former Tory chairman, accused party chiefs of inflaming the row and allowing Jeremy Corbyn to escape scrutiny over allegations of anti-Semitism.

Furthermore, Rowan Atkinson has written the following to The Times:

‘As a lifelong beneficiary of the freedom to make jokes about religion, I do think that Boris Johnson’s joke about wearers of the burka resembling letterboxes is a pretty good one. All jokes about religion cause offence, so it’s pointless apologising for them. ‘You should really only apologise for a bad joke. On that basis, no apology is required.’

He’s right … isn’t he?

Well done Rowan Atkinson. It seems to me that the tide is turning at last, hope so.

//... but if ever Doris Johnson becomes PM, the UK will become the laughing stock of Europe.\\

It already is, without any help from Boris.
It may not be so ludicrous as it first appears. If he ever does find himself in Number 10 he'll need to work hard to try and reunite a country bitterly riven over Brexit. An appreciation of others points of view could do no harm.
He missed it for me Talbot, I can see at he was trying to do but his material wasn't strong enough, his characterisations too similar, and the whole thing too slow paced so I found him a bit cringey. A little more out there and he could have been really funny x
"Rowan Atkinson is telling us what we should think..."

No he's not. He is telling us what he thinks. And another big difference is that we are not threatened with "Diversity Training" if we think differently to him.
I am questioning if Dave Allen took potshots at 'all religions' NJ...not whether they all deserve it, because they do.
What's the difference between a burqa and a post box?
The burqa is an item of clothing worn by a human being and the other is a postbox!
If he has not completed the diversity training that every civil servant is expected to complete then yes he should do it!

Talbot at 10:47, very good,. :o)
"I am questioning if Dave Allen took potshots at 'all religions' NJ...not whether they all deserve it, because they do."

Apologies, Talbot. Bit early in the morning for me!

No, I don't believe he did take pot shots at all religions. Mainly Catholics and Jews, if I remember correctly.
1) Boris is not a civil servant
2) Diversity training, aka hugamuzzie, is a crock of crap.
Question Author
Talbot at 10:03, superb. Everyone should listen to that - and digest it.
"If he has not completed the diversity training that every civil servant is expected to complete then yes he should do it!"

He is not a civil servant. And having attended some "Diversity" seminars I'm somewhat miffed at the amount of taxpayers' money that is being spent treating civil servants to such tosh.
What's the difference between a burqa and a post box?

The burqa is an item of clothing worn by a human being and in many countries, if they don't wear it they are beaten or whipped.
erm, yeah... the other is a postbox!
Is Boris an MP and employed by the crown?
That is your opinion regarding diversity - I dare say it is your age, and I suppose I should forgive you your rudeness.
Yes because if the civil servants did not attend diversity training they could all be like you.
I would hope that Independent article is tongue in cheek, because it’s largely nonsense. Boris Johnson would need to be at least semi popular with MPs to have a chance of getting to the final voting round, and he isn’t. Also, he tried once before and was shafted by Gove, who realised he was hopeless, something Johnson himself had also realised anyway.
This obsession with BJ is rather pathetic : it surely shows how thin the level of talent is in the ground that his name keeps coming to the fore. Just because he can tell a few good jokes. His talents are many but unlikely to include being a good politician.
It’s also odd how Tories who try to shut him up are branded with the word ‘liberal’ when labour politicians who do the sane thing often get called extremists. Johnson’s burqa comments were not worth getting steamed up about: but actually it is he who is the liberal
There are some styles of Burka that do look like a post box, the ones with an oblong eye peering piece as opposed to the ones with a slit.

I really dont see the problem. No diversity training is necessary for anyone except extremist Muslims and other religions that refuse to accept the Western way of life.

Bring on the 'populist' Politicians so the normal right and normal left can join forces for a while and drain the swamp of the minority hand wringing liberals.
"Yes because if the civil servants did not attend diversity training they could all be like you. "

So that would be intelligent individual thinkers who can drive society forward. Bring it on then.
//‘You should really only apologise for a bad joke. On that basis, no apology is required.’ //

That doesn't say 'I would only apologise for a bad joke...' it say's what he thinks others should do.
That's not a burka that's a niqab.
//So that would be intelligent individual thinkers who can drive society forward. Bring it on then.//
Intelligent thinkers ! HaHA
You can't tell a difference between a burka and a niqab! Yeah really intelligent.
