This latest US President has done more for World peace than any past Presidents.

What would some rather him do, sabre rattle with Russia and North Korea or seek better relationships with them?

Yeah!! Go for it! Another opportunity for a Trump hate-fest! I’ve long ceased to be bemused by the exaggerated ramblings of the anti-Trump brigade - rather the whole dishonest bandwagon leaves me pretty much disgusted every time it rolls by - which has been practically every day for the past couple of years. Example, “This is a man who disgracefully...

The thing is that I *do* agree with the general principle that one should at least try to talk to one's enemies. What concerns me, however, is how enthusiastic Trump seems to be about talking to Putin, Kim, and Xi Jinping in favour of his actual allies. It's a disturbing and dangerous world when the US is more inclined to trust Russia than the UK, and the president prefers Putin to his own CIA/FBI.

Weave whatever conspiracy theories you will, but in the end it was plain for all to see that Trump was standing up to endorse Russian politics at the expense of everyone else's. That is wrong.

Trump was right to talk, but he said all the wrong things.
"Ick, you have proved my point. If you hate him so much then it makes me like him even more."

Which proves my point, even better!
Mind you, Ich, that was Putin saying it on Trump's behalf, and I inferred from that that Trump was not particularly fussed about it. It was also noteworthy in his rant about Mueller, Clinton etc, that was meant to be about how both the US and Russia were at fault for the souring of relations, that Trump mentioned nothing at all that Russia have done in recent years. Why not?

Granted, the anti-Trump brigade would say all this, and granted I am one of them, but it was also interesting to see even Trump fans distancing themselves from yesterday's display. I suspect AOG et al are, at the very least, running out of excuses for his incompetence.
Yes absolutely nothing wrong with meeting people.
It's what you do when you get there.
No doubt many saw Chamberlain as the saviour of the world in 1938, although I'd not want to besmirch the name of the former PM who was honourable if misguided, by comparing him to the "Overcomb" of 2018.

Trump actually blamed poor relations between Russia and the US on the foolishness of the US: America First???
"I suspect AOG et al are, at the very least, running out of excuses for his incompetence. "

I doubt it (sigh)
AOG - // I can't believe that so many wish for war, I have lived through a World War and even on the brink of a Nuclear War and believe me it is not pleasant, in fact some of you anti-Trumps would be *** scared. //

Where on earth does that come from????

Who on this thread has even hinted that they 'wish for war'?

It's interesting that President Trump announced that relations between America and Russia had 'never been worse'?

I also remember The Bay Of Pigs AOG, I also lived through, it, so even though the Presdeint you arfe so keen to defend appears not to remember that, I lived through it too.

Youu don't have a monooply on living through unpleasant unpleasant and frightening history - you just seem keen to defend a man who lived through it as well, he either just doesn;t remember, or he chooses to forget, or he ignores it rather than upset his new BFF.

None of those approaches are appropriate for a President Of The United States.

// "I suspect AOG et al are, at the very least, running out of excuses for his incompetence. "

I doubt it (sigh) //

Me too. If you didn't suss what a fickin buffoon he was during the election campaign or before, there's unlikely to be anything he does now that'll change your opinion.

Not the American people, but past and some present American politicians.
YMB 'looking at the end result'

What end result would they be?

/// Who on this thread has even hinted that they 'wish for war'? ///

The opposite of war is peace and I can't see any anti-Trumps praising him for seeking better relations (peace), so obviously they wish for worst relations (war) between the great powers.

/// It's interesting that President Trump announced that relations between America and Russia had 'never been worse'? ///

Until a moment ago, I think he said, so that has got to be good surely? And for one that is always seeking a nice friendly talk over a cup of tea, what can he be doing wrong in your eyes?

Is it because you can't see Putin offering a cup of tea?
The problem isn't Trump meeting PUTIN
It's TRUMP meeting Putin :-)

In other words, there's no problem with meeting - as we already said, It's what you do when you get there, and I'd suggest traducing your own politicians, security services etc while fawning to a ruthless autocrat is not a good way of spending your time. Both men are serial liars, although you get the feeling that Putin's lies are part of a strategy, while Trumps are a lot more tactical.
Meanwhile, the question "does Putin have something on Trump" remains unanswered. His claim that "if there was anything it would be out by now is unconvincing in the extreme. Meanwhile Putin remains about the only world leader Trump's not said a bad word about.
And Putin has been mouthing off on Russian TV about the various things he was offered by Trump ...
Hmmm

Where have I said that I do, it's not a competition?

You also mentioned The Bay Of Pigs:

This makes good reading:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/oct/15/cuban-missile-crisis-russian-roulette

/// As the ExComm meetings were drawing to a close at 6pm on the 26 October, a letter arrived from Prime Minister Khrushchev, directly to President Kennedy. Khrushchev's "message seemed clear," Stern writes: ///

/// "The missiles would be removed if the US promised not to invade Cuba." ///

The next day, at 10am, the president again turned on the secret tape. He read aloud a wire service report that had just been handed to him:

/// "Premier Khrushchev told President Kennedy in a message today he would withdraw offensive weapons from Cuba if the United States withdrew its rockets from Turkey." ///

Wow, what a fantastic piece of logic. Do you also believe that a dog born in a stable is a horse?

I honestly do not believe that Donald Trump does anything ever that is not in pursuit of his own ego, and that includes running for and being elected President.

It pervades absolutely everything he says and everything he does.

He recently told the world that 'he' had made sure that Nato members were increasing their defence input, even though Angela Merkel promptly contradicted him, and confirmed that all the members had agreed increases anyway, before he was even involved.

The man is an ego on legs.

What can be doing wrong? How long have you got!!!

Let's just stick with this - what he does wrong is make everything he says and does about him, not about his office, or his country, or the wider world, and that is the mark of a seriously immature and self-obsessed individual.

And not someone fit to be in charge of anything - never mind one of the world's super-powers.

Putin must be laughing - indeed he could barely keep a smirk of his face - not that Trump would notice.
I don't think the Russians have 'got anything' on Trump. We'd almost like to believe that because it would mean his behaviour would make some sense. No. I fear he's just a bit of a fool.
AOG - // … it's not a competition? //

Judging by the number of times you remind the site of your longevity and experience of the world, you clearly think that it is.
Ludwig - // No. I fear he's just a bit of a fool. //

If I were measuring the size of that understatement, I would need the dimensions of the universe as a comparison - so I could quadruple it!!!

I occasional have to, since some of you do not possess longevity and experience and are therefore much less experienced in such matters.

But what that has to do with competitiveness can only be your brains interpretation of the word, but experiencing some of the garbage it comes out with, it is of no surprise.
AOG - // I occasional have to, since some of you do not possess longevity and experience and are therefore much less experienced in such matters. //

That presupposes that longevity and experience are the same thing - clearly they are not.

I don't think the General Sherman has much to offer on the history of the world - even though it has lived through more of it than anything on the planet.

So I can't accept your assertion that simply because you have lived longer, you know more - it's not logical.

Hang on, it's less than an hour ago that you were lecturing me about not picking you up for being offensive to other AB'ers.

If you want to tell me that your advanced age has also had a detrimental effect on your memory, then on that at least we can agree.

A person that laughed at his own 'jokes' and you have the nerve to criticise Trump.
AOG - // A person that laughed at his own 'jokes' and you have the nerve to criticise Trump. //

It wasn't a 'joke' it was an observation - sorry if your longevity and experience have not provided you with the difference.

And why that - if it were true which it is not - should prevent my criticism of President Trump, I really have no idea.
