It feels like the metropolitan elite / liberal luvvies / Remoaners hate the bigoted Daily Mailers and vice versa.

The liberals hate the conservatives, the young hate the older generation (and vice versa) and the Trumpeteers hate the liberals.

Do you think that we have now entered an age where hatred for the views of others is the default position?

Years ago on AB (I'm old school) - I remember that we could all discuss topics without screaming at each other.

Why has this changed?

Are we all suffering from confirmation bias?

Or is it something else?

AB, as the real world is, seems to be populated far more now by the precious, the habitually offended, the childish, the politically correct, and the sycophantic, than it ever was in the ‘old days’. Some are all too often quick to accuse others of ‘personal abuse’ or of ‘ganging up’, or of racism, etc., etc., and, encouraged by their particular...

That's exactly what got me thinking this. I genuinely feel hate for people on AB, and it's only because of their views - not for who they are. I don't like this about myself and this is why I've posted this thread.

To counter this, how do you feel about joining in with a new version of AB, where those sentiments are set aside, and everything is all about the issues at hand!

Wouldn't you prefer that, if everyone else did the same?

A grown up version of AB?

You're doing what I'm suggesting we get away from.

Forget me! I don't need to be the subject of any discussion on AB - wouldn't you prefer it if we stopped all the personal digs?
Well if sp is right then it's something that we have to accept we're all contributing to. Well, you all are, obviously I'm special and above reproach...

I just think it's part of the human condition. Fun to hold a position, but hard to sustain the passion for it if it's not seen as just a little combative.
I'm almost certain that I've seen posts by andy-hughes and mikey4444 that have been nasty, but because they are (in my opinion) 'good people' - they get a free pass.

I am 99% certain the black (people of colour if you like) people I know would despise mikey.

Awww...c'mon -Talbot-.

Perhaps I should leave it.

I don't think this is going to work.
SP .....this thread seemed like a good idea, but look how quickly its descended into personal abuse !

This is why ... easily offended.
I sometimes don't think people know how patronising they sound when they are being 'good people'

I'm saying it wouldn't wash with my crowd.
Certainly it is the case that I hardly now post in the news section , and avoid looking at some peoples posts .
It's become a dog fighting pit , sometimes .
I certainly sense some hatred by some people on here towards others - and I don't think that hatred is too strong a description .

Whether it's indicative of the wider society , being more confrontational , I don't know .

SP......there are people that I never respond to here on AB !
Hardly in the spirit of the site, Mikey!
Perhaps not Ummmm, but if I had personal acquaintances, who were as offensive, as a minority of here have been, then I wouldn't speak to them either.
Are you sometimes as off hand offensive with "the people in your acquaintance" as you are with some of the people on here Mikey?

PC imo has knackered society up, it simply went far too far.

Maybe I'm not part of the 'good people' but one thing I do know is that a society full of people like me who do not get offended left right and centre would get on better than a society full of easily offended.

I'm going to try a little experiment for a few weeks - whatever anyone posts on AB in response to what I've said, I will try not to get personal.

Mini-crusade.

Wish me luck.

...or not.
