My heart bleeds......saved the German taxpayer a fortune, bless him.

Well done to the 3 Syrians who captured him.

andy-hughes, // the loss of a life under these circumstances does not, in my view, benefit society// The loss of that life under any circumstances benefits society - in my view.

- Lost intell
- No justice
- Martyr
It's a shame in that the German Intelligence Department could possibly have learned a great deal from him......other than that...meh!
Does the term 'Innocent until proved guilty' mean anything?

Maybe not.

///When police raided his flat in the eastern city of Chemnitz early on Saturday, they found 1.5kg of TATP, a home-made explosive used in the deadly jihadist attacks in Paris last year and in Brussels last March.///

Yes, we all keep a supply of that under the bed.

LOL, couldn't resist eh andy?
I am not for one minute suggesting that Mr al Balkr is as faultless as the day is long, but we do have due process of law, and everyone is innocent until proven guilty under the law.

That is the point I will always make when due process is not followed.
I generally agree with that POV, andy, but given that al-Bakr decided to die rather than face German justice, it tends towards the view that he knew himself to be guilty.

We know.

I have no idea what you mean, and less interest than that in finding out, so please don't derail your own thread again by getting into another fruitless dialogue.

No argument there at all.

Emotionally, I entirely agree with the view that the world is undoubtedly a better place without him - loss of information and intelligence notwithstanding - but I do try and follow the notions of justice and fairness when I am able.

I hope no-one else wastes valuable time with your personal witterings

I hoped you weren't going to respond to anything I posted..... You've let me down again.

AH,
How many innocent people have
/// 1.5kg of TATP, a home-made explosive used in the deadly jihadist attacks///
in their flat I wonder?

Well rid imo.
The only scandal is his scumbag lawyer. I hope the German SS look into his political allegiances. If he thinks that he is potentially very dangerous.

As for lost intel, he was detained on Monday so I'm sure the security services have already 'had a chat' (unless you are advocating waterboarding or similar?)

Justice? //Jaber al-Bakr, 22, strangled himself // So he topped himself, are you suggesting he should be tried for this? If he had been murdered I could sort of get your position.
Baldric - //AH,

As I said, I do not for one minute suggest that Mr al Balkr is innocent, the evidence overhwmeingly indicates that he is not - but we don't judge and condemn on evidence, we do it through due process, and my regret is that there was not an opportunity for that to be exercised.

As Gromit succinctly indicated - lost intelligence, the absence of due process, and the possibility that Mr al Balkr's death adds credence to his vile cause are all regrets.

Have you smashed that jimmy savile mug yet?
or is he innocent too?
YMB - //The only scandal is his scumbag lawyer.//

Lawyers do not become 'scumbags' because they defend the potentially indefensible - they provide a valuable aspect of the operation of the law. That is doing a job, it does not automatically infer that every defence solicitor believes his or her client innocent, but rigorous testing of the prosecution's case is vital to ensure that justice is served. Without that we simply have a vigilante system of law.
