Many have said that they didn't, but what was the alternative?

On a radio phone-in this morning, one person was foolish enough to suggest that the parents of the child staged this, so that they could obtain video footage to later sell to the media and put on youtube.

A mail journalist has taken up yards of newsprint in today's edition anthropmorhising this situation, and the gorilla's behaviour, centering in the fact that for a new seconds the gorilla held the child's hand. This sort of handwringing sob-fest goes against the facts and the potential of the situation - a large and potentially lethal primate, part of a...

I absolutely agree Gness....
Hey, Woof!...Bet you're in a minority there though!.....☺
Yup.
Evening man with really annoying avatar......♥
Get yor kicks on route 66...
No option but to shoot this animal, a tragedy.
The mother's response on facebook is shocking! I understand that she is thankful for her son's survival, but to not acknowledge (like so many others) that it was a tragedy that Harambe had to be shot. In her post, she never even said that she felt any sorrow over the loss of Harambe. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/cincinnati-zoo-mother-of-boy-who-fell-into-gorilla-enclosure-says-accidents-happen-a7056506.html
A vigil for the gorilla?
Erm....
My point was not about the vigil. Her family were looking at an endangered animal, because of her son entering into "the gorilla world" innocently,as a 4 year old,the gorilla had to be shot dead. Her facebook page makes no reference to the loss of the animal they had been looking at. Methinks lawyers in full flow now:-(
In my opinion, the zoo people had no choice. But they should be hauled over the coals for having such useless security of the compound. Can't really blame the parents, we have all taken our eye off the sprogs for a second to have them disappear. The compound fences should not have been so useless that a four year old can get through therm so easily. The zoo is guilty of that. A beautiful animal died needlessly because of it.

/// They should have shot the child instead, the ape only had the cage, the kid had the whole world. ///

I've read some very strange answers on this thread, but this is the most sickening and disgusting post I've read, seems to me there is someone else who should be in a cage.
You shouldn’t be surprised anotheoldgit there are many people who firmly believe that a human life is no more valuable than an animal’s life
I'm sick of reading that the parents are responsible. It'd be a strange world if we all just stared at our children while on a day out.

You don't go to the zoo and not look at the animals. If you're looking at the animals you're not giving your child 100% attention...if you have more than one child even less so.

I think most parents have had at least on moment.

It wasn't that long ago that I picked up a toddler walking down the middle of the road with no adult in sight. She got out because someone didn't shut the front door properly....by accident.
Shouldn't have shot the gorilla.
The parents are responsible, Ummmm......if you take a child into a busy and potentially dangerous place.....or you leave them alone in bed while you dine out.... then you are responsible for what happens to them as a result.

As for a human life being more important than that of an animal....no.
We are part of the animal world, we somehow gained an advantage over other animals and we have misused and abused that advantage shockingly...

If I could magic us back in time and the four year old clown who was to invent Catholicism (or Islam...or... take your pick)....or Jimmy Savile was in an enclosure with a gorilla........?
No......we are not more important.
Excellent post gness.
Thanks, Viv....x
