Less and less people are choosing to pay for the media arm of the Labour Party. I hope they don't get away with this. They should be a subscription based network. Then those that like it will be happy to pay for it.

why don't the Tories just set up their own media network? I know they've Guido Fawkes and all that, but it's hardly enough to project the might and purity of Cameron, is it?

The crucial thing is that no-one (really, really *absolutely no-one*) gets to see or hear or read any BBC output unless they have paid.

Regardless of the funding methodology, I want all the overseas freeloaders cut off and (unless we do go for a universal levy from taxation) all non-payers inside the UK cut off too. Encrypt everything.

That means online, over the air and by ***ing withcraft too, if they use that to steal programmes they don't pay for.

I enjoy going on to Guido myself. It's refreshingly non-PC after this place. Only, er, I've never had to pay for it. Which is kind of the point of the thread, jno.

didnt realise you were that naive...err maybe I did, i just underestimated by exactly how much...

I dont remember reading anywhere that I need a licence to access Guido Fawkes and that it was a criminal offence to not pay if I do access it

what the BBC funding has got to do with the purity of Cameron is anybodys guess...

this is all about how to fund an archaic organisation that predates the dinosaurs....an organisation that should pay for itself like most other businesses, even though you may have no interest in its garbage output classed as entertainment...

I dont recall having to pay to keep Tescos alive by paying extra to Sainsburys....

Oh, and jno, if you think they support Spoonface on Guido, you cant have looked in for a long time. The tory boys come in for more abuse than Labour supporters. (and are becoming thinner on the ground)

World Service was fine when access to news was heavily controlled in so many countries.

It's an anachronism now and in danger of being a Government mouthpiece - it should be wound up.

I'd even argue that their online presence should be restricted to the iPlayer - all the other news/sport/magazine stuff is beyond their remit and duplicating other sites.

One of the main criticisms of the licence fee made by the BBC is the touble and cost associated with collecting it.

It will be interesting to learn how they propose the "universal levy" is collected and more interesting to learn whether it is to be a flat rate for all households (or whether the "poor" will get their usual discount).

"Universal Levy" = from central taxation - about 1p on the basic rate will do it.

This is wrong - just encrypt the whole shooting match and charge for access on a personal (not household) level.

Charge for both broadcasts and online - including all the hangers on and freeloaders who claim not to watch ... the annual cost per head should come rocketing down as everyone suddenly realises that they actually *do* watch quite a lot of BBC TV ....

Blairs Broadcasting Corporation has had its day. An enforced licence fee is archaic, the BBC should eb subscription for those that want it..
