These offences came to light as a result of investigations into the Plebgate affair. The Police seem to be getting completely out of control.

Oh I seeeeee. Your wanting all these things to be brushed under the carpet for the sake of national pride.
Zacs-Master

/// Where have I even hinted at that? You're just making things up to suit your own ends now. ///

And where have I accused you, my words were "some of you", if you choose to include yourself then that is entirely up to you.
If you didn't mean me, then why put my post at the start of yours? Back-pedaling isn't your forte. I make that twice on this post alone.

/// If you didn't mean me, then why put my post at the start of yours? Back-pedaling isn't your forte. I make that twice on this post alone. ///

I am not in the habit of 'back-pedalling' (two 'L's)

But of course that is the usual phase some use when they have been proven wrong.
So, if you didn't mean me, why did you quote me at the beginning of your post?

Proceed with caution Zacs, the spelling police have arrived!
Zacs-Master

/// So, if you didn't mean me, why did you quote me at the beginning of your post? ///

Because I happened to be in a one to one debate with you.

How many times have you been having a discussion with someone and you have said "some would like to see a Labour government in charge" and if that person also happened to be a Labour supporter, although you were not directly saying he was also in favour of a Labour government, but if the 'cap fitted' so be it.
So you were having a one to one debate with me, but your post wasn't (necessarily) aimed at me? Just read that back.....
Anyway we seem to be departing from the thread at the risk of our posts being removed so....
How about answering my assert action that you would rather see wrongdoings swept under the carpet than risk the pride of our country?
Zacs-Master

We must stop meeting like this.

/// How about answering my assert action that you would rather see wrongdoings swept under the carpet than risk the pride of our
country? ///

Well of course not, but it is of course all dependant on level of the 'wrongdoing', if a policeman is late on duty because he went on a 'bender' the night before, then I don't wish to know.

But if he failed to catch a wrongdoer, because of this lateness, then I would like to know.

Okay Miss.
Ok. Let's agree to disagree. Mrs Zacs has volunteered me to paint the bathroom ceiling! Catch you on the flip side (whatever that means).

Okay Zac, make a good job of it, and don't forget to take your mobile with you up that ladder, you don't want any peering eyes checking it out. :0)

// But regarding this, that is what this country is becoming more often good at, and that is crying ourselves down.

It is either our Government, our Armed Forces, or our Police etc, etc, we are now according to the news blaming our retail outlets for the vile conditions in Bangladesh sweat shops. //

The world has changed. People have greater access to information, and a lot of that information is not controlled by the Government and the mainstream. That is the reason we see more criticism. The Gpvernment, Police and Military are not any worse than they were 30 years ago (they are probably better), but it is harder to cover up, hide, keep mistakes secret because of technology.

For example, people now carry a camera and movie camera with them all of the time. So more images are captured of people breaking the law, being fooling or generally behaving badly. Sometimes that includes people who are supposed to be working for us, who are disgracing us.

Another difference is that 30 years ago, if you had a photo it was very difficult to put it in the public domain. Fleet Street and TV Editors mindful of getting knighted or honours would kill stories, especially if it was against the establishment. Only journals like Private Eye had any independence. Now people bye pass the mainstream media and post their videos on YouTube. Post their pictures in a blog. So we get to learn and see a lot more these days.

We also demand more transparency of our servants. But now they have a greater chance of being found out. So the challenge is for the police, military, and Government to start to obey the law like the rest of us and not think themselves exempt.
as gromit says more and more people are seeing what is happening in the real world

Yes I agree with what you say, but in this case if these were normal porn images on a personal mobile phone, was it really serious enough for it to be brought to the public's attention?

Is there not now an almighty row over the tapping of personal material by the press.
Back in the 60s the Met used to hold parties to which the leading gang members were invited as long as they paid their 'dues'. Once you had 'party invites' you were to al intents immune from being caught, you would get a discreet phone to warn you when a raid was planned in time to remove any evidence.

Here is a Daily Mail link to the fracking protestor video. The outlet now for such stories is the net. Once these stories are already published, the established media have a hard time ignoring them, so are forced to belatedly write about them.
