/// At Burnley Crown Court, jobless Ahmed, from Burnley, admitted causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress and was jailed for eight weeks after a judge said referees were entitled to protection from badly behaved footballers. ///

Shouldn't this footballer have received a more heavy sentence due to him threatening to kill the referee's wife and children?

/// As the other players and spectators looked on, angry Ahmed was escorted off the field shouting: 'I’m going to burn your white house down and kill your wife and kids - I know where you live. I’m going to come and find your house.' ///

I thought this necessary since we hear so much of racism committed by whites, level playing field and all that.

I wonder how many times a white person has said to a referee 'I'm gong to kill you for that decision'?

Are you saying that you were oblivious to this chap's ethnicity when you posted this thread, AOG?

How remarkably unobservant of you.
He deserved to be jailed BUT I remember a thread on here where black players had complained about being called monkey and some here said it was banter!!
AOG you referred to the man's race in your OP and subsequently and it is also part of the Daily Mail story you cited. It is gratifying that you noted it.
I wonder how many times a white person has said to a referee 'I'm gong to kill you for that decision'?
AOG - "Can you also convey to Sharingan, that contrary to her statement "since you must have taken considerable effort sourcing this story"

Please inform her that it does not take any considerable effort on my part, it just takes one to read the news that is daily printed in some newspapers."

This infers that you are 'not speaking' to Sharingan which is rendered pointless by the fact that she can read your post just as well, and saves sp1814 the tiresome task of being your 'go-between'.

Are you really going to continue this battle on so many fronts?

Is it worth the time and effort?

/// You must have missed it AOG because you never posted about this disgraceful (white) gentleman. ///

Poor attempt this time Gromit read what I put *** I thought this necessary since we hear so much of racism committed by whites, level playing field and all that. ***

This is not a thread on examples of foul play on the playing fields of soccer, because if it was no one could be expected to post on all incidents committed on most match days.

But thank you anyway for proving that 'Racist rag' the Daily Mail does not only report on disgraceful acts committed by dark skinned gentlemen.
'dark skinned' wow have we gone back in time?

/// Are you saying that you were oblivious to this chap's ethnicity when you posted this thread, AOG? ///

Are you people for real?

Of course not, the thread is headlined "Respect, Kick Out Football Racism". and the chosen news item states that it is regarding an Asian footballer, you will be asking nme next why I chose a football incident, why not cricket, tennis etc etc?

I don't know why I bother to answer such pathetic replies, but then it highlights these matters to others, so I suppose it is not all in vain.

For the record, the word Asian appears in the OP box before anyone had replied!
AOG, so you do accept that your OP was about this man being Asian, then? And so you raised the matter of his ethnicity ab initio ? Good to read; we might have been wondering what the point of the OP was, otherwise

/// AOG you referred to the man's race in your OP and subsequently and it is also part of the Daily Mail story you cited. It is gratifying that you noted it. ///

Please be good enough to point out where? Taking into consideration that passages enclosed such /// are Daily Mail quotes and not mine.

But then reading their quotes I still fail to see where the man's race is mentioned.
I've got it AOG.

You only highlighted this case of Asian racism because you acknwledge it is exceedingly rare. Fair enough.

Headline from your link AOG.........ASIAN in first line

Don't get all excited that Best answer award was a slip of the finger while trying to copy your answer.

But back to the said answer of yours.

/// I wonder how many times a white person has said to a referee 'I'm gong to kill you for that decision'? ///

That is a different play on words altogether, such as "I could kill for a drink' etc etc.

Totally different to a direct threat to burn one's house down and kill one's wife and family".
AOG, just read your OP again, ignoring the fact of the Daily Mail headline and story which you cite at the beginning. What is the natural and obvious meaning of your words?
Opening paragraph of the Link,

///An Asian amateur footballer has been sent to prison for subjecting a referee to a 20-minute racist rant as he was being sent off.///

easily missed I suppose!
AOG, in what way does "I could kill for a drink", a statement which doesn't constitute a threat to anyone, equate to " I'm going to kill you for that decision" addressed to a referee, a specific individual?

But full credit to you. You appear to have grasped the legal principle involved ( I think, anyway, hope) that this man's words didn't amount to an offence under the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, of threats to kill. If you haven't understood it, I'm not sure I can explain it any more simply.
Ha ha...how much did you sigh a breath of relief when you found that Belfast Telegraph story AOG?

Go on...
