Ive actually always assumed that anything that specifies that it is a "flavour" is highly likely to be a manufactured flavour and lacking the actual product, I thought this was widely known and accepted. What did people think were actually in Hedgehog flavoured crisps?

I like the way they keep going on about crushed insects. Cochineal (now known as carmine) has been used for years as a food colouring, particularly for coloured icing on cakes - even in home baking.

I've heard of Cochineal, but I thought it was a colouring used in make up.

I see that many of the top rated responses are from Mail readers who are equally shocked that the site thought that this was a justifiable story.

Yes, that was comforting to see -- that Mail readers, while often having views completely the opposite of my own, are certainly able to recognise rubbish just as easily as the rest of us. Newspapers seriously shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of their readers. This is insulting rubbish and most people have seen it for what it is.

You have to be careful buying hot dogs , we like them now and again, check the meat content...some are made from mechanical retrieved chicken. Now that did make me start looking at food labels !
