I thought they already were banned! It was never entertainment anyway.
I thought that animals had been banned from performing in circuses ages ago?

In fact if my memory serves me right, I entered a thread on the subject, and linking the decision to also ban horse racing, especially steeplechasing.

While at it, why not also ban boxing?
AoG, I bet if you backed the winners it would be a different story :-)

No, not banned yet. Sorry I can't do links, but like I said it's on Mail Online News. It all came to a head when Annie the old elephant at Bobby Roberts circus was filmed being beaten and kicked whilst chained, by a circus worker last year.

If I did gamble on the horses, mine would be the one's who fell at the fences, which is precisely my point. :0)
You and me both mate! Mine would fall in the stable if I backed a horse

Even as a child I thought that there were something 'wrong' with animals in the circus. Couldn't put my finger on it - I just knew that they weren't happy.

chaptazbru - I assume the two year grace period is to give circuses time to offload their animals to zoos and/or private collectors, and to develop new acts to attract the punters.

Re: horse. I've only ever backed one. My mum put a quid on Red Rum in (I think) 1977.

It won, and I've never bet again, because when I die, I know I'd have got one over on the bookies.

sp1814, I too had those feelings as a child. We were taken to a circus as children some years ago and I remember being heartbroken at the tricks the elephants had to perform, it just didn't seem right and I've hated circuses ever since.

AOG, fluff has already done it thanks, but I'll follow your instructions if I ever need to do a link in future - but don't hold your breath !!

Also, and let's not sugar-coat this...with the exception of Cirque Du Soleil...circuses smell to high heaven.
Question Author
You've got a point there sp !
What clown suggested this? It will only lead to the demise of the travelling circus!
Question Author
No it won't they'll just travel without dragging wild animals around with them ! Wish all animals in circuses could be banned personally.
Why not ban clowns at the same time? They terrify me.
Question Author
Just don't go to circuses then !
I don't. They are visible elsewhere.
