Trying to find out the name of a psychedelic band who had a hit with a song that used a Japanese girl to "sing" (she actually spoke the chorus in a soft whisper) part of it.

It was a huge hit. The band was of the pink floyd genre although it might not have been them.

Help with this much appreciated. We're talking from about 66 to 67, I think.

"Kites" by Simon Dupree & the Big Sound contained a passage spoken in an oriental language.
Could be that?

You're spot on, mushroom25. Many thanks for coming up with this. I've been racking my brains for ages tonight trying to remember it. Problem was in a Google search my query was too vague.

I listened to it on YouTube. Very old black and white footage.

Thanks to both people who gave me the answer. It was exactly the song I had been thinking of. Anyway, i think it was a real classic and possibly one that, looking back, slipped through the net.
