"Oriental" riff?

Just been listening to 'Turning Japanese' by the Vapors and discussing how the opening bar is the same as Carl Douglas's 'Kung Fu Fighting'. Presumably this is an actual tune from somewhere - any ideas?

Bingo! Forgot about Bowie's 'China Girl' - how could I?? Thanks, Judge, I always thought it was a Western invention to signify the mysterious Orient. I'm none the wiser as to origin really, but the Wiki entry is very interesting. Thank you.
this is my favourite use of "the riff" and pre-dates The Vapors (slightly!!!)
