Midwinter Advice For Motor Insurance

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

A sudden cold snap may catch many drivers by surprise; say motor insurance companies, leaving a string of flat batteries and frozen cars in its wake.

Motor insurance companies say that calls to service help-lines can increase seven fold in cold weather, with battery problems alone up by 75 per cent.

It can work out to be expensive say motor insurance companies, who say that the average local garage callout to jump-start a car costs £125.

Motor insurance companies have recommended drivers should look out for the following options as standard when considering motor insurance quotes to ensure you're not left freezing at the side of the road.

·    Tow to garage.
·    Fix at roadside.
·    Take you and your passengers home.
·    Fix at home.

Motor insurance companies also say that drivers must bear in mind any special circumstances that may apply to them, such as motor insurance cover when driving abroad, and whether they want to save money or go for the 'deluxe' policies.

"There are many additional features and benefits available and these most definitely do vary widely," said a motor insurance manager.
