Fuel Goes Green

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

Five per cent of all vehicle fuel sold in the UK will be grown rather than drilled within the next five years, the government announced recently.

And as well as leaving you with a warm and virtuous glow, the literally green fuels of the future will be as effective at cutting down your running costs as finding the best motor insurance quote.

The government has set the target of five per cent biofuel usage, produced from crops such as sugar cane and oil rape seed, by 2010 as it attempts to hit emissions targets. These are so called ‘Bio Fuels’ and already run many of our public transport vehicles.

This will be as effective at reducing CO2 as removing a million cars from the road claims the transport secretary.

To encourage driver take-up it is offering incentives such as lower road tax, enabling substantial savings on the current £2,000 cost of running a car, especially when combined with the best motor insurance quote. With ever rising fuel costs this could be a big draw to the man in the street.

The first biofuel vehicles are already arriving in the UK, some of the biggest name auto manufacturers are already launching cars that will be run on biofuel.
