Many thanks,

I stay indoors, after taking my OH a coffee! :-)

I drop mine off and go to a nearby cafe for a cup of tea. I can't stand and watch them clean my car. It doesn't seem right somehow.
either - once when i used to work in the community i completed some notes nd ate my lunch in the car while it was cleaned. In supermarkets, i am usually doing shopping!
It depends what makes you feel comfortable.

If it is just a straight wash, you can stay in the car, and make or avoid eye contact depending how you feel.

If it is a mini-valet - available where I am for only £10 - I get out and sit on the chairs provided, and I read the book I take with me to kill the time.

It's just what you feel more relaxed with - I doubt the washers are bothered either way.
If I'm just having the basic wash I wait in the car, anything else I do the same as Tilly and pop round to local cafe, about 20 yards away and have a coffee.
Just sit in the car and every couple of minutes, wind down the window and shout "you missed a bit"!
But not while they're hosing it down.
Whatever u r happy with
Hand car washes = migrant slave labour
At my car wash they want us to sit in, at one point in the wash they tap the windscreen and we move the car back a couple of feet, so they can clean the tyres properly apparently.

Thanks all!! There's nowhere to go at the one I've got in mind, cafes or shops etc, so I'll play it by ear...if they seem friendly I'll ask them what do most folks do ;)
Andy, I'm guessing the mini-valet involves some interior cleaning? I'm not ready for that yet, thanks ;)

If I just want the outside done I stay in the car, if I want the inside doing I get out and sit on the bench providec where there are usually newspapers.
Baths - "Andy, I'm guessing the mini-valet involves some interior cleaning? I'm not ready for that yet, thanks ;)"

It does, they take the mats out and wash them, the hoover out the entire interior, and they wash outside - bargain.

Take a book and as them for a cup of tea
Only pay by credit card so taxes are paid.

Andy...only a tenner? That sounds a bargain!

Talbot...I've only driven past, but I didn't notice them being held at gunpoint ...;)

Surely correct etiquette is to say, "Be off with you, I'm here to shop at the supermarket not be bothered by the likes of you yet again !"
AH, paying cash would deny the chancellor tax income to support illegals. You wouldnt do that, eh...eh?
tambourine - "AH, paying cash would deny the chancellor tax income to support illegals. You wouldnt do that, eh...eh?"

Absolutely not - in fact I insist on my valeters being illegals from Eastern Europe, preferably Muslim as well - I would accept nothing less!!!
Bathsheba - "Andy...only a tenner? That sounds a bargain!"

They've only put it up once every twelve months, when I started going it was £8!!!
