Hi, my car insurance company are 99% going to declare my car a write off, as the repairs cost more than the car is worth, however i have since found out that i can get the repairs done a lot cheaper than that of the garage the insurance company use, would i now be able to drop the claim with my insurance company ? i am not sure if i can do this or not and what costs i would prob occur.
Thanks.

Well if the car in your opinion is worth the money to repair then go for it, but take my word for it Gilly they will try to offer you a stupid price but stick to your guns, for you to get another car that you do not know is harrowing until you get to know the car, you said the car is in a body shop well they will know what they are doing, if they offer you a decent price you MAY BE...

Contact the Insurance Ombudsman in your area or ring 0845 080 1800, explain excacly what you have been said by your Insurance, get ( If possible) Quotes by a garage in your area & giving you the costs of getting the car back on the road & in roadworthy condition. do not back down Gilly, these insurance comps all try it on.
If the insurance company declare it a write off then they will pay you the value of the car and offer to sell the scrap back to you at possibly a nominal value.

You are then free to get your own repairs done.

Thanks alot, i think i will drop the claim if they allow it, and as you all say get the repair done myself, would my insurance still stand with them though as it was before as i would be dropping the claim ?
Just be aware, a lot of Insures retain the car make sure of this beforehand.
To add, They MIGHT offer you the Norn value of the car, but they will try for the least that they can pay.
Regarding TWR's point, I am not sure why there is any reason to go to the insurance ombudsman about this

Thanks for your help, do you think i would have to pay the charges for the garage keeping it there and also for the towing of my vechicle to the garage and for an inspector to look at it ? cause if this all adds up i really dont know what to do for the best, its a ka 2002 car and my repair is £1020 (£75 parts £175 paint and the rest labour and vat !!!
If the garage is going to get the work it will be lost "Doing the work" ask the garage for their best price, do you have a Mr Gilly to help? a lone woman will get taken advantage of! ( Wait for it) but you can ask around for prices, the garage where your car is, is it a dealer?if so look else where & cut your cost, what is the state of the damage?

I do have a mr gilly ! but useless with cars, cant even drive one ! so all down to me, the garage is a body workshop so only does body repairs i didnt have a choice where to take it, or the choice of another estimate, thats where it is such a con, and the insurance company have still not told me whats going on, its only the garage told me when i rang, and i refuse to ring the insurance even tho i want to know whats happening (altho i do know !)

Good Luck. but do not back down.
