My Son in Law's gone to Thailand for a few weeks. I want to charge his car battery. How do I open the bonnet of a VW GTI 02 model? Sitting in the car is a lever just below the right knee, which I imagine is the one to open the bonnet, but I have tried lifting it (not too hard in case it breaks) and nothing happens...Have I got to be really HARD lifting it or does it turn or twist or something? Thanks in advance, John.

Give that lever a good yank and you'll find you can get your fingers under the centre of the bonnet, where there's a T shaped catch. Pull it toward you to release. It's a bit fiddly!

They are normally either in the glove box below the glove box, on the floor next to drivers seat or on the dashboard low down near the steering wheel
