When Harry Met Sally

09:03 Fri 30th Jul 2010 |

When Harry Met Sally is a classic romantic comedy. Written by Nora Ephron and directed by Rob Reiner the film was based around personal experiences of these two plus Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, the two lead cast members. The supporting cast includes Carrie Fisher, Bruno Kirby, Steven Ford and Lisa Jane Persky.

At the time of its release the film, despite being up against several summer blockbuster films, was a huge box office hit. When Harry met Sally received rave reviews from critics and audiences equally and is still as popular as ever on DVD. Many claim the film heralded the era of the true romantic comedy ‘will they won’t they’ genre. It is the true-to-life feel of the film that undoubtedly makes it one to watch.

The comedic talents of Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are brilliantly used in the film, especially the iconic diner scene which delivered one of the all time classic funny lines ‘I’ll have what she’s having’. The development of the romance between the two lead characters takes the whole film but also allows the supporting cast room to make their own contribution.

When Harry met Sally they went on a road trip together and ended up, inevitably, discussing relationships and whether a man and a woman can have a purely platonic friendship. During the rest of the film we see the couple with and without each other and how their romance blossoms almost without their knowing it.
