The Lake House

11:08 Fri 16th Jul 2010 |

The Lake House is one of the most unusual romantic films of recent years. It is a remake of the Korean film Il Mare and stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves in their first repairing since Speed in 1994. The Lake House was directed by Alejandro Agresti who is also known for Valentin.

The film was a not a huge box office success and this is somewhat of a surprise due the star paring of Reeves and Bullock. Many viewers found the chemistry between the leads was a bit strained as they do not actually appear on screen together until the end of the film. That said there is an undeniable romance between the two which is more grown up and passionate than sexy.

Audiences did, however, love the unusual views of urban Chicago when Reeves’ character takes Bullock on a romantic tour of the city by letter and leaves her a message written on a wall two years earlier. Unless watching carefully it is possible to get a little lost in the time switching and some viewers found this confusing and felt that Reeves and Bullock could have found a better vehicle to team up in.

The two lovers are living in the same house but two years apart and communicate with letters through the mailbox of the house. Slowly they realise their love for each other and that they are separated by time. When they endeavour to meet up in the present things do not go as planned.
