The Day After Tomorrow

12:08 Fri 16th Jul 2010 |

The Day After Tomorrow is a science fiction disaster film. The story is based on the idea that global climate change will eventually create a super storm which will send tidal waves across the oceans and send the temperature plummeting. The film stars Dennis Quaid as a paleoclimatologist and Jake Gyllenhaal as his son.

Despite being a relatively good box office success the film has received mixed reviews from audiences. The fact that the film concentrates solely on what happens in America and barely mentions the rest of the world is a sore point which serves only to enhance an age old stereotype.

However, all agree the special effects are magnificent; the scenes of New York and Los Angeles being destroyed and the satellite pictures are truly brilliant. The film is well worth a look for the CGI alone. Many viewers thought that Quaid and Gyllenhaal gave convincing performances as well as the supporting cast.

Dennis Quaid is the usual grouchy and unpopular scientist with a message of global disaster. His son becomes trapped in New York with a group of his high school friends on a trip and once the disaster is over Quaid decides to set out to walk from Washington to New York to rescue him.
