The Da Vinci Code

09:55 Fri 09th Jul 2010 |

The Da Vinci Code is a mystery thriller with a dash of action. The film is based on the book of the same name by Dan Brown and was directed by Ron Howard. It stars Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, a university symbology expert in a frantic chase across Europe to find the Holy Grail.

The film has had a mixed reception despite being somewhat of a box office success. This is a great action adventure mystery thriller with a twist at the end for those who have not read the book. However, purists are as ever disappointed by the cutting of the original storyline and feel this detracts from the film's impact. In addition, due to the subject matter in the film, namely religious history and figures, there have been protests at theatres across the US claiming it is blasphemy and that it shames the Catholic religion and Jesus Christ.

Robert Langdon is implicated in the murder of a friend who works at the Louvre in Paris. Using his knowledge of symbology and with the aid of Audrey Tautou, who plays his murdered friend’s daughter, Langdon has to solve clues and finds he is on the trail of the fabled Holy Grail.
