Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief

09:03 Mon 28th Jun 2010 |

Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief is a fantasy adventure film. Directed by Chris Columbus who is famous for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Mrs Doubtfire and Home Alone the film is an adaptation of the novel by Rick Riordan. Logan Lerman pays the lead role.

The film has had a very mixed reception, as often happens with book adaptations. Fans of the book complained bitterly that the plot deviated far too much from the original and this destroyed the story for them. In addition, the absence of several major supporting characters made the film seem half empty.

People who were unaware of the book were on the whole pleased with the film, stating that the CGI effects were stunning and that the references to ancient Greek mythology were easy to follow and no prior knowledge was required. Many viewers also mentioned that they felt the rating was too long for some of the scenes and it should have been a 12A not PG.

Many have likened the themes to that of Harry Potter, Narnia and Stardust. On the whole a good teenage fantasy adventure romp and well worth a look if you are into that sort of thing.

Percy Jackson is living a fairly normal life when he finds out he is the son of Poseidon the brother of Zeus and Hades. He meets up with other demi-god children like himself at Camp Half-Blood and sets off to save the world and rescue his mum along the way.
