Independence Day

Independence Day is an action adventure film. The archetypal save the world from aliens film, Independence Day was directed by Roland Emmerich who also created the hugely successful Stargate franchise. The film has an all star ensemble cast including Will Smith, Jeff Goldbloom, Bill Pullman and Brent Spiner.

On the whole Independence Day was well received for what it was, an all action shoot em up film. However, many audiences were disappointed with what they saw as a weak plot and doubtful acting despite the all star cast. Many found the film enjoyable and the slightly comic performance of Goldbloom as a nervous scientist brought some welcome relief to the otherwise end of the world story. The CGI and special effects were very good but many people could not get over the fact that the US president himself flies in a fighter to try to defeat the aliens.

The earth is being attacked by scavenger aliens who will destroy all life and harvest the planets natural resources before moving on to the next planet. With seemingly overwhelming fire power it looks like the aliens are going to win when a captured alien fighter is used to implant a virus into the mother ship in orbit which disrupts their shields and allows earth weapons to penetrate the attacking craft.
