I am having trouble solving the following. 3 Pitchers, 1 full of 16 litres, two empty ones of 9 litres and 7 litres respectfully. The 16 and the 9 pitchers need to have exactly 8 litres each.

This is 1 possible answer but might not be the quickest (pitchers 16 9 7 in that order and -> means pour into):

initially= 16 0 0
16->9 = 7 9 0
9->7 = 7 2 7
7->16 = 14 2 0
9->7 = 14 0 2
16->9 = 5 9 2
9->7 = 5 4 7
7->16 = 12 4 0
9->7 = 12 0 4
16->9 = 3 9 4
9->7 = 3 6 7
7->16 = 10 6 0
9->7 = 10 0 6
16->9 = 1 9 6
9->7 = 1 8 7
7->16 = 8 8 0

Yes it is Prof Layton and I have used all the hints. I have 10 litres in the 16 litre pitcher and 6 in the 9 litre, apparently according to the hint only 4 moves away, but there I am stuck!
