who says so? - on the radio news this morning they are talking about planes on their way to Libya now, ex UK and Malta, to pick up UK citizens. IMO the criticism is that the UK Government took longer than other countries to mobilise relief planes.

Agree ^^^. There's no shortage of planes. Hague should have acted sooner.
I rather suspect the problem was not of the city fat cats would insure the planes
Anybody who had an ear on the news would have got out before it got bad. A woman on TV who got out said that she and her family didn't know what was going on because they weren't the kind of people to watch the news. If you go to a dodgy country to get very high pay then you or your employer should get you out. It is strange how people complain about a 'nanny' state until they want their nanny. Too many adult people have a teenage mentality.

boxtops '' talking about planes on their way to Libya''??? I am afraid that is all Hague has done for the last week TALK''''
A schoolfriend of mine has spent the past few years making disparaging on-line comments about his disdain for the UK, its governments, its 'wage-slave' citizens, the 'tax-take', the whole 'country-going-to-hell-in-handcart' Doomsday scenario and how from his lofty (and very well-appointed, apparently) perch he is very pleased that he and his family, living out in Libya, no longer contribute financially *in any way whatsoever* to the coffers of such a pathetic and second-rate country......

Guess who has been drumming his tiny little feet and insisting that 'as a British Citizen' his government come and rescue him and his family.............?

The brits that are stranded in the desert ,,and have no means of transport to get to the airport .can someone tell Mr Hague, Davie boy, Cleggy'''that we have a new invention now ...its called the helicopter ????
Are you too young to remember Jimmy Carter's disasterous attempt to rescue the Iranian hostages when all the helicopters flew into each other in the dessert?

Sounds easy - fire up a few helicopters fly in, whip people out.

Practicalities are somewhat different - the Lybian dessert is a big place! Where are you intending to take off from?

could send in Mark Thatcher , in a Range Rover'' ????
LOL Thatcher would get lost on the way and end up in Monaco.
Good cartoon in the Independent today. It showed a split picture with Hague on the phone in one half and Cameron on the phone in the other. Hague says, "Shall we send in a battleship to pick our people up?" Cameron replies, "No, frigate." Hague goes on, "OK, let's not bother then." (All 'or words to that effect'.)

These people are employed by big companies and it is these companies who should be responsible for getting their staff and families out of Libya.

Why should our government have to get them out? I know that the conditions are bad and that the people wish to leave Libya asap - but they went there knowing that the country was potentially unstable and that was why they were getting the big wages.

Why do people blame the government for everything that goes wrong in the world?
Yet again you are all missing the point, the government has not got a duty of care to the so called British citizens who run off to earn a big wage and avoid paying anything to the UK tax system. If they had been following world events rather than counting their pennies they would have been able to get them selves out safely.

If they have gone on holiday to such a country before Home Office warnings are in place then it is a different matter and they should be offered help to get out safely.

As jackthehat has already mentioned, most are quite happy to be raking in more than a banker makes in bonuses and *** of the country they want to help them when times become hard, shall we give them all nice houses to live in when we have saved them as well so they feel welcome back in this hell hole of a country!!
