Was it because she wanted to use his surname to stay famous in her career?
I'd been married nearly 30 years when we divorced. I never even thought to change my name (although I've always written undermy maiden name). When I ended up in France I found myself in a legal tangle because over there your birth name remains your legal name for the rest of your life. T.b.h. it's a much easier system and although I have remarried I keep my maiden name for banking etc. etc..
I daresay Priscilla never even thought to change it - that was her name.
