I will br
E travelling to the airport and have to change trains at Ely. Th train I get off stops at platform 2 and I then have to get to platform 3b to catch the connecting train. There is only 5 minutes between the two trains. Does anyone know if platform 3b at Ely is far from Platform 2 and could I make it in 5 minutes?

There are no ramps.

The train in the picture is on Platform 2. Platform 3 is on the left:

2 and 3 appear to be next to each otehr

All the same, you wouldn't want your first train to be six minutes late.
sorry - you can click on "Station map" at the bottom of that page
I know Ely well. There's no problem connecting there.

Platform 3b is just part of Platform 3, which is on the other side of the same platform 'island' that Platform 2 is on:

Thanks so much, jno and Buenchico. Didn't think anyone would answer it in this section so reposted it in Chatterbank.
I know Ely too and am reasonably confident that the connecting train will wait for you (within reason and for a minute or two)

You could at thetford station for an assisted transfer too.

Have you had a good visit to Norfolk Spotit? I'm over on the Norfolk broads and wish I could have made the sun shine for you while you were here!

Buenchico, just had a look at your link. Does this mean I just have to walk a short distance? Is it up the steep ramp they mention.

Thanks, Maidup, I have had a lovely visit. I was over seeing family and had a great time. So nice to see them again.

A very good point. When I worked for National Rail Enquiries in the days before ATOC decided that workers in Indian call centres could provide a much better service than I ever could, I always made a point of offering the customer the choice of an earlier connecting train, especially when flights were involved, for that very reason.
no, they're just the two sides of the same platform, I think. Looks as if you may have to stroll 10 feet or so.

okay, 20 feet!
20 feet? Tut tut, JNO, surely you mean 6 and and a bit metres! (Can't do the maths).
Question Author
The feet will do me fine. I am a tad old for metres so have just stuck with feet and inches!

Your picture makes it very plain, Buenchico. Many thanks.

Just to let you know I got my connecting train to airport OK and am now home and in my own cosy bed again! Many thanks once more for all your help.
