my husband was never good at paying child support even when my kids were little..so he was in arrears and owed back child support.. it was a struggle just to get him to pay anything so when my youngest son turned 18 I thought well that's it...so imagine my surprise when years later and my son is 21 yrs old i get a check from child support.. why? what does it mean? I'm just surprised..is this a one time thing or is my husband still obligated to pay us back child support?

Child Maintenance Service had this amount down as arrears and at some point managed to get an attachment to earnings and get it paid. So it will depend if...

Child Maintenance Service had this amount down as arrears and at some point managed to get an attachment to earnings and get it paid. So it will depend if according to them that is the full amount or a payment toward a larger amount. Was there any letter with the cheque?
i presume you are not in the uk from your spelling of check or a department called "child support". This i a predominately UK based website.
I would call whoever sent you the cheque

How do i reply to an answer? I just want to say thank you for answering so quickly.. I received a small cheque but hoping theres more coming.
^ Just like that :-)
Just to say, there's absolutely no need for a ma to pay child support.

I've got a standing order set up for the day my wages come out. That way its never missed.
*man not to pay...

Not the word to miss out, was it?
