/// Motorists caught driving with ‘porthole vision’ can face a fine of up to £60 and three penalty points, according to the AA. ///

/// Porthole vision refers to drivers leaving a gap big enough to see out of but not the whole windscreen. ///

Unlike the rest of your 'fanclub', AOG, I must admit I've never worn a burqa while driving. Nor even a paper bag with a slit cut in it. Common sense would, however, suggest it must be extremely limiting to a driver's peripheral vision so I can see where you're coming from. (Unlike others, ;))

Why will their windscreens be frosted over?
AOG, What has wearing a burka got to do with defrosting a windscreen which is what the Act refers to?
How does wearing a burka affect your ability to scrape your windscreen?

Or is this another petty dig at muslims?
You could drive with a blindfold on and still not commit this particular offence:
30.—(1) Every motor vehicle shall be so designed and constructed that the driver thereof while controlling the vehicle can at all times have a full view of the road and traffic ahead of the motor vehicle.
(2) Instead of complying with the requirement of paragraph (1) a vehicle may comply with Community Directive 77/649, 81/643 or, in the case of an agricultural motor vehicle, 79/1073.
(3) All glass or other transparent material fitted to a motor vehicle shall be maintained in such condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is being driven on a road.
Groan.
Do you think racing drivers cannot see because they have a head covering?
Your anti-muslim posts just get more and more pathetic
ANOTHEOLDGIT, get an A4 sheet of paper and cut out a hole the shape and size of a normal letterbox. Put the paper to your face so the hole is across your eyes about 1/2" away. What is your field of vision when you move your head and the paper? You should be able to see everything.

Compare that to what you can see through a clear part of the windscreen when the rest is frosted. You have a restricted view and you can't see much to the left or right, that is the difference.

And you don't think that wearing the burka doesn't obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is being driven on a road?
vision through a burka gives you about the same scope as vision through glasses.
Aog, That is not the question. You asked if a woman wearing a Burka would be accused of leaving a vehicle with the engine running.
Another anti Muslim post
You're right about the glasses, jno. Looking over your shoulder when you wear glasses often means you are not looking through the lens but rather out of the side, unless you are an owl or a contortionist.
hc4361, when I picked up by first pair of varifocals, I tried driving away and realised to my horror that they shaded to reading glasses on the outsides as well as towards the bottom. I had no peripheral vision at all; I couldn't see anything to either side without turning my head 90 degrees. I had to go round the block and take them straight back to the opticians.

With ordinary glasses (or a burka), no problem.
If you pull the A4 sheet across your face it should be more realistic.

By the way, how many burka-wearers are driving compared to the hundreds of thousands who will be scraping only a wee bit windscreen?
Question Author
That's scary, jno. Thankfully my varifocals aren't like that. I do hate driving in the winter sun, especially when it's been raining. The glare can be blinding.

Wear a burka while you are driving, do you?
‘Author And you don't think that wearing the burka doesn't obscure the vision of the driver‘

Prove it.
only on my way to Ku Klux Klan meetings, aog.
According to the Mail her boyfriend has come forward with proof of his back pain.
Clear a small hole in the snow/ice on your windscreen and turn your head and all you'll see is snow/ice - regardless of what you're wearing.

Which part of this are you struggling to comprehend.

If someone is driving who cannot see clearly then maybe a different law would be enforced, but not this one.
